NLG Holland wins Martien Zandwijk award

On 21 January last, NLG Holland won the Martien Zandwijk Award for the most sustainable flower bulb farm. The prize is awarded to a company that is active in the field of the improvement, growth, forcing, trade, or retail of flower bulbs. The company has to work in an innovative manner on sustainability and spread the word in the field.

Martien-ZandwijkprijsThe award was named after the founder and first chairman of the Milieuplatform Bloembollen (environmental platform for the flower bulb sector), Mr Martien Zandwijk, who passed away in 2013. The Milieuplatform Bloembollen, with broad representation from the field, acts as the jury. The awards ceremony took place at the Members’ Day of the KAVB (Royal General Bulb Growers’ Association), at the Aviodrome in Lelystad. The theme of the day was innovation and change.

The award is a sculpture by glass artist Linda van Huffelen. The sculpture represents a flower bulb in clear and yellow glass with a light green shoot. The layered glass represents the layers of a flower bulb. The shoot stands for sustainability and green beginnings.
